It's a sad day for American fans of Topshop. As Wall Street Journal reports The UK-based retailer will close all remaining stores in the US, including locations in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Las Vegas and Atlanta. In addition, the parent company of Topshop, Arcadia, filed for bankruptcy for Chapter 15 in the US. The silver lining for history: Topshop is still online and available through Nordstrom.
Per WSJRepresentatives of Arcadia identified a number of specific business challenges: switching from retail to online shopping, the pressure to discount items to compete with large volumes of product shipments. In addition, WSJ Other reasons for the decision were: "The company announced that its broader restructuring efforts will focus on promoting digital growth, increasing business-to-business revenue and improving its infrastructure." WSJ explained. "Crucial to the restructuring will be to bring rents back to sustainable levels and leave unprofitable stores," the court records said.
