Where do you get your news from? If Jessica Yellin's Instagram is not at the top of your list, this is soon the case. In the latest episode of Second Life, former White House Chief Correspondent for CNN and founder of #NewsNotNoise, tells Hillary Kerr how she has used her Emmy-winning reporting skills in both social media and book publishing.
Yellin reports in short and well-researched reports about the most important news right on her Instagram. Topics range from Brexit and healthcare to the Green New Deal to the college recording scandal. The Harvard graduate not only flexed her social media muscles, but has also dealt with the book publishing world, publishing her first novel titled Wild News next month. The satirical book examines what it really is like to be female in male-dominated news agencies.
For anyone considering journalism, Yellin tells Second Life how she admires people who take a different approach. "Tell the human side of the story, focus on some of the stories that are ignored, and calmly focus on what matters most: the viewer walks with a sense of understanding," says Yellin. "I do not need you to think, I have the best sources, I do not need you to think, I have the story first, I do not need an exclusive, I know, these are things you should never say, I need to know that You understand the story better when you're done, and you feel safe talking about it, and ultimately empowered to act on it. "
