Hello there 🙂
The catwalks of the fashion month always provide a steady stream of outfit inspirations, but I'm secretly more interested in the style of the show participants. The editor-in-chief of Who What Wear, Kat Collings, visited the Paris shows as usual, and fortunately made a pit stop in NYC on the way back to LA.
I caught up with Kat from her flight from France because I could not wait to hear about her favorite shows and fall trends. She tells me everyone in Paris wore leather inserts, layered neutrals, and Cartier's miniature Guirlande bag, but then we both decide it's better to show than to tell …
The next thing I know is that Kat has a suitcase full of Paris Fashion Week-inspired outfits to try on. Cue the excitement. Immediately, Kat has turned these three outfits upside down, all of which are amazingly chic yet somehow quite practical (maybe it's the versatile crossbody?). Without further ado, here's Kat's fantastique (and French girl approves) Autumn style.
"Basically, I'm a little girl," Kat tells me about her Guirlande de Cartier bag, which can be seen in all three looks. Especially this outfit is most inspired by the street style of Fashion Week, but Kat assures me that this sophisticated day outfit will still have many appearances, even if she's from Paris. As an inspiration for her ensemble, she had the following to say: "I like to play in neutral tones." The way this came to life is through the brown background of the plaid blazer, which speaks to the rich brown boots without feeling the same The number one material of the season is leather, so this olive green dress is also very trendy. "
A red purse might feel brave, but that's exactly why it works, according to Kat. "Plaid is a simple print that can be combined with such a statement bag," she says Really committed to the plaid blazer trend last fall and now owns one for each day of the week (or is it just me?). Another trick up my sleeve? "Make sure that at least one other element of the outfit is also a statement, or at least goes beyond the basics, which helps balance and offers several interesting points," she says.
I expect in effect that Kat will start speaking French when she disembarks in this next outfit. The entire neutral color history feels very modern and cool here, especially if it is equipped with a refined bag with upper handle. "Polished parts like a white button-down or a trench coat are classics among the Parisians," says Kat.
The key to peeling off softer shades in fall and winter months is choosing the right materials. For example, the cuddly knitwear of her white dress ensures that the item is suitable for cold weather. The black guirlande bag underlines the classic look and highlights the darker shades of her snakeskin heels (side note – animal print goes nowhere). Kat tells me it's all about the tiny details in choosing the perfect little black bag, and I could not agree anymore.
I wear jeans almost every day, and I was curious that Kat opted for this dark denim skirt and blazer outfit. "A matching kit is the easiest way to look together," she tells me. "It only looks It may take a lot of effort, but it's actually that easy. I also think it's great that the gold buttons look almost like jewelery here and highlight a rather casual fabric. "She's also in the habit of wearing jackets and cardigans without a top." I like to play with the buttons, whether that is so only the middle secure or the lower left intact. You can choose how much skin you show, depending on the occasion, "she says.
Kat decided to wear her blue denim outfit again with the red mini-bag (another proof that it's a must-have this season). As if I had to convince even more of the versatility of this bag, it shows me how the flap for an even more elegant look can be put into it. "I love that this bag can be worn in so many different ways – it's like having several purses in one," Kat advises, and who should I quarrel with?
